You run the work.
WHET runs the back office.

Books, compliance, operations, and the systems that hold them together. We do the work ourselves, install what is missing, train your people to run it, and stay until you can read the numbers without anyone translating them. Tax and accounting are in house, so nothing about your company gets handed off in the middle.

What we doall of it, in one house

Profitable on paper. Broke on Friday.

The work is good, the customers come back, and the company still runs on the owner's memory and a line of credit that covers payroll while the money is "in process." Naming that is the easy part. Here is what we actually hand over.

  • We do the books. Bookkeeping, billing, collections, payables and vendor terms. Closed and in your hands by the 10th, not caught up in April.
  • We cost the work. Every job quoted against actual, so pricing stops being memory, and thirteen weeks of cash visible so payroll stops being a surprise.
  • We close the compliance gaps. Licenses, certs, bonds, permits, payroll rules. We audit it, build the calendar, and run it. Tim Butler is an ISO 9001 Lead Auditor, so the audit is his profession.
  • We install the systems. The stack we run our own companies on, fitted to how you work, with SOPs written from your walkthroughs and the dead steps removed.
  • We turn the outreach on. The software that takes friction out of the sale, configured, plus follow-up that runs on its own instead of depending on the busiest person in the company.
  • We train everybody. The operator, so they can read the outputs and make the call. The people inside the systems, so the systems survive a resignation.

One function or all of them, wholly or fractionally. We scope it on the call, and when we know someone you should meet, we make the introduction.

The offerwhat it costs, plainly

Several ways in. One conversation.

Every engagement is scoped on the call, because no two back offices are broken in the same place. These are starting points, not a menu you have to fit. We also work for a share of the growth we help build, by the hour, or in whatever arrangement fits once we have seen the books. Nothing you spend getting to the next step is spent twice.

The Diagnostic
$2,500 · 30 days · the plan we would run, credited to month one
The seat
$3,500 to $9,500 / mo · fractional CFO or COO · one function, several, or the whole back office
Projects and one-off work
$225 / hr, or scoped to the job · hours credited to the project fee
Growth share
a smaller base and a share of the new income we build · terms set in writing once we have seen the books

A smaller first step: The Read is $500 and one week, two pages back, credited in full to the Diagnostic. We start where your budget is, with the moves that pay back first, and grow with you. Training is inside every engagement at no extra charge.

Questions owners askbefore the first call

Before you book.

  • What happens on the call? You tell us how the money and the work actually move. We tell you what we would fix first. You leave with that first fix whether or not we work together.
  • Do I have to switch software? No. We start with what you already run on and only change what is costing you money or time.
  • Can I start small? Yes. We start where your budget is, with the moves that pay back first, and grow from there.
  • Who actually does the work? We do. Operations and finance leadership in the seat with you, with tax and accounting in house through Butler CFO & Tax.
  • What if I am not an owner yet? Talk to us anyway. We help people go from an idea to a running business. Start here.
  • What if we are not a fit? We will tell you, and if we know someone who is, we will make the introduction.
The Whetstonemonthly, first of the month

What keeps us sharp.

What I am finding useful, what I have learned running my own, and what is worth keeping up with. The things that keep my businesses and my clients' businesses sharp. One email a month. No series, no upsell chain.

Book the diagnostic call · 30 minutes

Two diagnostics a month. Bring a month that didn't pay what the work was worth.

Thirty minutes, by phone, no deck. You tell us how the money and the work actually move, we tell you what we would do about it, and you leave with the first thing to fix whether or not we ever work together.
